Adaptive reuse of a heritage building near the center of Brussels, from a single family to a multi-family house. The design exploration included multiple options for the making of maximum nuclear family units and/or studios for singles. The challenge of the project was to maximize the real estate value of the property in its limited plot area in an expensive and popular neighborhood near the European parliament.
The chosen design option worked from the concept of compact and modular design in its multiples, incorporating roof gardens, terraces and skylights placed strategically to provide ventilation and natural light. Substantial accommodation was created within the strict and non-negotiable heritage volume and regulations keeping the character of the building and neighborhood intact, yet making it a profitable venture for the client.
